Darlaston All Active was formed in
July 2008 and is now a thriving community venue, evolved
from an idea that came from Darlaston All Active's
Project Manager, Sharon Felton.
From a very young age, Sharon encouraged her son Daniel
in his chosen sport of karate. Daniel was successful in
his field and competed nationwide in tournaments across
the country. Eventually Daniel was able to teach
youngsters himself and built up a very successful club
in Darlaston at the local leisure centre. This was
earmarked for closure in June 2008 leaving no where for
the club to go, this is where Darlaston All Active
really begins.
After a campaign in the local newspaper, the owner of
the former Garringtons Club approached Sharon to inform
her that the venue was available. The club had been
closed for 15 years but Sharon saw the potential and
secured funding and along with local volunteers set to
work.
Research was undertaken to find out what the community
of Walsall wanted and after taking all feedback on
board, a number of clubs were set up at Darlaston All
Active.
So far successful projects include karate, performing
arts, dance groups, history events, wrestling classes,
shows, live entertainment and tribute bands. Sharon
believes the club caters for all people in the local
community and even provides educational classes for
those who want to develop their skills. |
